Blue's Chocolates is a small little chocolatier shop by the UC Berkeley campus that specializes in handcrafted dainty little chocolates that are perfect for a gift! They stock a variety of different flavors of chocolates which range from fruity to tea based flavors. The staff here do a great job in explaining all the flavors and size options which made the experience of purchasing a box seamless, enjoyable, and an overall pleasure. For a college student, it can come off as being quite pricey, but with little bits of sacrifices here and there, it's really not that bad. The various colors and shapes of the chocolate pieces placed evenly throughout their box is a delight to the eyes. The silky smooth chocolate that simply melts in the mouth is a delight to the tongue. Even though I personally would still prefer my 86% cacao dark chocolate, I've got to say that this chocolate is super good. Given the price and fanciness of it all, I would never buy a box for myself, but I would definitely recommend buying a box for a pleasant surprise of a gift!

Amazing creative chocolates with layers of flavors that are fun to eat. We selected the three heart shaped chocolates ( banana split, raspberry and summer cobbler). All were fantastic and treasured by the wedding guests. I plan to return soon and enjoy more flavors. Great service- I sent an email with my order the week before and the 120 chocolates were boxed and ready at the agreed pick up time.

Yesterday, on my way to get my hair done by Kim at Eclipxe Salon on MLK Jr., I saw this place while I was walking on the other side of University Ave. I vowed to go there after on my way back to BART. I walked into Chocolatier Blue with my hair beautifully styled for a ceremony I was attending yesterday evening, feeling in a really good mood. I went inside, Chris Blue greeted me and I was just astounded by the looks of the truffles behind the glass cases. They were so beautiful, I couldn't take my eyes off them! He noticed my intrigue, told me about the unique Amedei chocolate they used, and gave me a lemon truffle to taste, in the shape of a leaf. I went to an even happier place at that moment, the texture of this chocolate was SOOOOOO smooth with a pleasant, delicate flavor! I was won over and I purchased the gorgeous heart shaped Pomegranate Caramel truffle for an affordable $1.50 to take home with me. It reflected my mood, I was so full of love. He told me to be careful when I eat this one, it's more messy than the lemon one (he noticed I was wearing the coral dress for the occasion that evening); I am thankful for the cautious statement. When I enjoyed the truffle the next day (while not wearing the nice dress luckily!), that caramel was so liquidy smooth, it just oozed out and got some on my chin! But the flavor and texture, wow, it was just surreal. I'm such a fan now, I'm spreading the word and I will have to return next time I come to downtown Berkeley. I'm very curious how their hot chocolate is, I cannot wait to give it a try!

These have got to be the world's best chocolates! I love that he uses the highest quality ingredients, and I love the unusual combinations of flavors. Right now, in addition to some classics, he's selling a line of chocolates he invented which are sophisticated and creative versions of childhood favorites, like Orange Julius, Oreos, Peanut Butter and Jelly, and Ants on a Log (with celery seeds! Surprisingly good.) I also like supporting a real person instead of a mega-corporation. The actual owner/chocolatier is the person who sells you the chocolates and shares information and suggestions with you. He's also really nice about giving samples, and tastes of his latest experiments. You can tell he really loves chocolate and really knows chocolate. I've never written a Yelp review before, but this business deserves to be better known. (Plus, I may die if I can no longer get his passion-fruit caramel chocolates to cheer me up.) A dollar and a half a piece, but a bargain for the pleasure you get. More pleasure and less cost and fewer calories than an ice cream cone. He also sells hot chocolate, which for some strange reason I never thought to try. but may try next time I'm there. His chocolates are very photogenic, great for a gift for some lucky person. The packaging is simple but elegant, and giving something so lovely that no one has ever heard of will give you lots of brownie points for making the effort to do something special and cool.

Was looking for a local shop to buy artisanal chocolate for Valentine's day and Chocolaterie fit the bill. It's located in downtown Berkeley so parking can be a little difficult. The chocolates here are so colorful and beautiful. I also really enjoyed the unique artisanal chocolate flavors. My favorite was the lychee lavender. The subtle fruity and floral flavor worked well with the chocolate. The chocolates here make a wonderful gift and I'll definitely be back!

Came for a nice box of chocolates for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day and was not disappointed. It's exactly what I was looking for. I came here for beautiful artisanal chocolates and feel that they delivered. Chris, the owner, offered me a sample of the mimosa. Soft shell, and ooey gooey ganache filling -- so delish. His favorite was the passion fruit caramel, and I can tell why! As someone who has worked in the chocolate/candy industry, the prices are very reasonable per truffle. I believe in supporting local businesses and call me crazy but my chocolate tastes prefer this over See's or Godiva any day. You're paying for art, supporting a local business and they taste great!

For my 100th Yelp review, I really wanted to review an outstanding business - so here it is... This is hands down the BEST chocolate I have ever had. As a former Godiva employee, I have really learned how to appreciate fine chocolates. I have been to many gourmet chocolate shops, but nothing comes close to Chocolatier Blue. The flavors they emulate taste EXACTLY like the product itself. Example: the carrot cake chocolate tastes exactly like carrot cake. I have had quite a few of their chocolates including: carrot cake, pistachio, peanut butter & jelly, hazelnut, strawberry cheesecake, pineapple upside-down cake, chili, and hazelnut. Every piece is remarkably exquisite. These chocolates make for a beautiful and delicious gift or even just a special treat for yourself.

I am a choco-fiend. I spent a year and a half of my life as a chocolatier. I am a chocolate snob. I've gone to multiple chocolate festivals. I will argue the merits of dark chocolate until the other person gives up or gives in. Needless to say, I went in here with high expectations. Expectations were met. Chocolatier Blue has been around for a while, but sadly, has always been closed when I thought to come out to curb a sweet tooth. The chocolatier behind the counter was friendly, funny, and very helpful. The shop itself is small, cute, clean, and of course, blue. There are little areas to sit and enjoy your chocolate. After a short conversation, I learned that there is also a location on 4th street, and that all chocolate pieces are made in house. I noticed a bunch of fresh strawberries on the back counter, and asked if they dip strawberries in chocolate. She replied that they use them in the strawberry pieces. THEY USE REAL STRAWBERRIES IN THE STRAWBERRY CHOCOLATE PIECES. Ok, I am beyond impressed. I settled on a five piece box ($10) because I wanted to get a good sample of their work but didn't want to blow tons of cash on chocolate pieces. Here's what happened: Hazelnut: Milk chocolate and hazelnut is one of my favorite pairings, and this did not disappoint. A smooth ganache encased in a solid milk chocolate shell. Caramel: Not a runny caramel or a hard caramel, but a soft creamy caramel. High quality and delicious, definitely worth a taste due to the rare consistency of this caramel. Cherry Limeade: I love cherry limeade as a drink, but had never gotten to try it as a chocolate piece. This is insanely good, and not too tart (which could have easily happened). Rhubarb: OMG. This was impressive. There was the great tart consistency of fruit (REAL fruit) as well as graham pie crust within the chocolate shell to give the true feel of a rhubarb pie. Very well executed. Smores: Wow, I am impressed. Marshmallow can often taste cheap or easily done, but this maintains a certain consistency that is associated with smores. Absolutely delicious. Each piece is a work of art and is hand crafted not 20 feet from where it is sold. Absolutely worth the splurge (as chocolate almost always is in my book) and would make an excellent present for your resident foodie or sweet tooth.
