Reviews

This review has been 5 years in the making. It all started with a simple article in the Daily Cal in 2008 and I decided to make the trek down from the (pretty) College Ave side of Berkeley to the University side of Berkeley. Pretty much blew my mind. My favorites are always the caramels, nuts, chili and espresso flavors. While I am not a huge fan of flavors like french toast, cinnamon roll, fruit loops (etc, you get the idea), they are still good. I just happen to think the traditional flavors come out a little better. I haven't found something comparable in LA but I just polished off the last chocolate from their Easter 35 piece special so I think I'm set for the next few months.

This place is so awesome. I've never seen such beautiful chocolate in my life. It's like an anime come alive. The finish is so smooth and shiny, even to the touch it looks and feels like a plastic display but the actual quality of the chocolate is amazing. I'm no chocolate connoisseur but the flavor is strong without being overbearing and texture is smooth after the initial snap of the outer finish. We were also given a free sample each! I got the chili one as a sample and my throat was burning it had such a kick I stayed down after . It was really good but I think I'll stick to normal flavors haha. We got 5 for $13, which is a steal considering we also got a sample each. Embarrassingly enough we didn't realize the empty middle walk through is so you can go to the other side and purchase their other items, you don't have to walk out to go to the other side. we looked ridiculous. I guess they used to sell ice cream but they've decided to focus on chocolates. They still have pies though! This was a great place to get after dinner chocolates/ dessert.

Small shop, easy to miss if you are walking, but it is a chocolate lovers paradise. I picked up two dark chocolate bars, the one from Ecuador, very deep and rich flavor. I got another one from Madagascar, looking forward to that with some tea and grapes or something.

This is hands-down the best place to get a gift box in Berkeley. The boxes that they offer have a beautiful presentation. They have all the standard chocolate varieties, but also some more exotic ones like Passion Fruit Caramel. I recommend trying the Mango Chile. It has some serious flavor. PRO-TIP: If you have kids, ask for the PB&J chocolate! Its delicious and will make any kiddo smile. Also, don't forget to try the Lychee Lavender. Such flavor!

This is where you can buy a little happiness in a box. So far I've only tried the salted caramel chocolate (which is pretty melt-in-your-mouth amazing and delightful with a perfectly thin shell and caramel that isn't too sticky or runny). Know that these chocolates are made with not only quality ingredients but a lot of care, attention to detail, and a clear passion for the art of chocolate making. The flavors here are unique and very interesting (imagine french toast, pistachio with cherry, bananas foster, and eclair). Many ingredients are local and if they aren't, they're sourced from only the best. The staff there are great and Christopher Blue has years of experience with a focus on bringing out bold flavors. They're also ridiculously friendly there and not at all pretentious. (Thank you Yelp for the field trip and Chocolatier Blue for hosting) Their chocolates may be a bit pricey, but given everything I've already said I'm sure you can cut the Starbucks latte and move on to chocolates. Open shop in LA please (: !

This is the best chocolate shop I've ever been to. They make such beautiful little pieces of art with really unique combinations of flavors. They sell single pieces of chocolate, little packets of 3, 10, etc. and it's great. I bought my mom a box of hand-picked pieces for $25 or $30 for Christmas and she absolutely loved it. I was very proud of myself. Even the packaging is beautiful. You really need to get in on this.

Today's Yelp field trip was really cool. there is so much that goes into running a business well and it appears that Christopher Blue has mastered it all! His staff is very friendly, courteous and helpful. The owner, Christopher Blue is not only knowledgeable, but so giving and generous with his information and time. He told stories, gave tips, dispelled myths about making candy, and then went above and beyond by telling our group to call him anytime if they had any questions while making candy. After making our own truffles, they even gave us "goodie bags" to take home filled with different truffles, candy and chocolate! It is so great to know the owners behind the business. He was so authentic and friendly, not at all pretentious. It makes me want to support him even more. The candy is a bit pricey, but it is truly special chocolate that may not be for every day consumption. It is really impressive for that special someone or a gift where you want to impress. My husband and I do couples retreats and work with couples getting married. I think it would be a lovely to gift these chocolates to our clients. This company uses high quality ingredients in all the items they make. They are welcoming and inviting and the kind of people you would want to be in a business partnership with. I only tried a few flavors today, but so far my favorite is "Better than Sex Cake!" And while it may not really be "better," it is a very, very close second! Thanks to Christopher & his staff for a great day!

I was a little skeptical when they called one of their chocolates 'ants on a log' but that's exactly what it tasted like-celery, peanut butter and raisins-not what you're really expecting when you put a such a pretty little morsel in your mouth. The first thing they did when we walked in was to hand us a free chocolate, not just a sample, but their recommendation right from the counter. And it was delicious. All of their pieces are beautiful, and their flavors are creative. With high quality ingredients and creative combinations, there's something for everyone. I also appreciate that by charging a little more to those who buy a custom box (in essence charging for the box itself) they keep the prices down on buying an individual piece. Perfect for a gift, or a treat after a great meal (try out Slow next door). This is a fabulous place in Berkeley!

The first think you need to know, Chocolatier Blue truffles are simply beautiful to look at. You will enjoy picking them out. You can't go wrong if you do it visually, or by flavor. The latest truffle collection is all about breakfast. I was really delighted with my caramelized banana and lemon poppy-seed offerings. Those two flavors, along with blueberry pancakes, sunflower & orange marmalade, French toast, and cinnamon roll made up the six pack I took home to my Mom for Valentine's Day. I didn't eat them myself, but the fact that they are gone and I didn't get any speaks volumes. She only eats candy sparingly these days, and will leave anything she doesn't think is delicious to linger (and linger) until I either eat it myself or throw it away. No need for that here. I wish I had picked up some of the other breakfast-themed flavors like mimosa, maple-glazed bacon, and coffee and donuts. I probably will just as treat for myself sometime soon. Why do I like Chocolatier Blue truffles so much? Lovely flavors and a nice bit of texture, balanced by gorgeous colors and shapes.

They have some very unique flavors and the service was excellent. I also was offered a sample of a chocolate I was interested in. A lovely one-off chocolatier. If you’re willing to skip to cute gift boxes, stick with buying them one by one in a bag as this is cheaper.

A small little chocolate store we just happened to stumble upon. I bought a box of chocolates here as a gift and she loved it. Of course I made her open the box right away so I could have some 🙂 The pear was ridiculously good, and I really liked the pistachio as well. If you're gonna have chocolate calories, you might as well have deliciously decadent ones. So good, she'll have to...lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c82z_bxy60E
